The Edvocate: What Robots Can Teach Kindergarteners
Hear from Hannah DeRusha from the Acera Elementary School of Science, Creativity and Leadership in Winchester, Massachusetts, where she describes how she worked with her kindergartners and first graders to think about concepts like: What does it mean to be human? What does it mean to be a robot?
Using KIBO, she introduced young learners to a new way of thinking:
- STEM instruction and critical thinking;
- Storytelling and creative thinking; and
- The philosophy behind robotics, to help students better understand robots and the science and thought behind them.
To achieve this, she used hands-on engagement through open discussions, whimsical coding assignments, and experimental play with KIBO.
