eSchoolNews: Look Who’s Talking—Classroom Robotics Continue to Flourish

In this audio recording, hear from Brittney Tarr, PreK-6 STEM Specialist at Thomas Metcalf Laboratory in IL, as she is interviewed by Kevin Hogan in the article, Classroom Robotics Continue to Flourish. She describes the benefits of play-based, exploratory learning for her elementary aged students. In her 10 years of teaching, as a special education teacher, ELL teacher, and a STEM specialist, she is helping making STEM accessible so all students are empowered to be change agents in their world.

“Kids can do powerful things and computers shouldn’t be tools for something for consumpltion but something for creation. I have seen kindergarteners teaching themselves how to use conditionals and loops in codes. If we didn’t have robotics, like KIBO robotics, I wouldn’t know that kids can do intense coding. We just aren’t trusting kids to do big ideas, and teach them younger.”
