Geography for Yom Ha’atzmaut

Contributed by: Ilana Picker, The Shefa School, http://www.shefaschool.org/

For Yom Ha’atzmaut we created a huge map of Israel. The students were then given pieces of paper with directions of where KIBO should travel. Each student was given a different direction. An example might be – travel from Jerusalem to Beer Sheva to Eilat. This integrated the learning that was going on in the classroom about Yom Ha’atzmaut and Israel, as well as integrating creative hands-on learning about the geography and map of Israel and the location of places. Students learned where Jerusalem is in relation to Tel Aviv, how to travel south to the desert, and how to get to Haifa which is on the sea.
