Balloons Over Broadway with KIBO

Inspired by reading Balloons Over Broadway, 1st and 2nd graders create a balloon parade with their KIBO robots!

Our KIBO Ambassador, Helen Schwartz, shares a fun fall activity inspired by reading Balloons Over Broadway by Melissa Sweet.

Her first and second graders created their own balloons (dressed up as a turkey) and then faced the challenge of attaching it to their KIBO, then programming KIBO to walk in a parade like the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The children came up with many different ideas for attaching the balloon’s yarn string. Some attached it directly to the platform, some to the motor and some to the pedestal. The second graders were successful in getting their robots to “march” by using the repeat program. The first graders added some turns and shakes in their program.

What a great way to combine the holiday of Thanksgiving and their new KIBO robots!
